Abandinallhope is North Texas based Mazinga Phaser's follow up to their 1996 self released debut album (which sold out of its limited edition pressing of 1000 copies in less than 6 months). Garnering rave reviews everywhere from Rolling Stone and Magnet magazine to local and regional press. The band also received extensive college air play across the country.
Abandinallhope spans Mazinga Phaser's entire career starting with "A Diamond in Shrink Wrap", one of the first songs the band ever wrote, followed by "Japanese Space Opera" which also appeared on the Dallas Observer "Scene Heard Vol. 2" compilation in 1996, and moving chronologically to their more recently written songs that aim to shed the reductivist "space rock" tag that is usualy placed on them. The material ranges from the garage rock grind of "Duke and Duchess" to the ethereal second half of the record. Abandinallhope displays breadth and ambition, augmented here by taut confidence and brilliant songs. A full 74 minutes of sonic bliss. |
