Centro-Matic was formed in 1995 when former Funland drummer, Will Johnson, started four-tracking his clever pop songs in his Denton, Texas bedroom. After Funland called it a day, Will released several singles (playing all instruments) and eventually hooked up with drummer/producer Matt Pence to record his first CD, Redo the Stacks (Steve Records) in 1997. Soon after that he recruited friends Scott Danborn (keys and violin) and Mark Hedman (bass) and now, as a full band, they headed into Son Volt's Jajouka Studio for a month to record what would be the next 3 Centro-Matic CD's. Navigational (Idol) was released in March 1999, The Static Vs. The Strings Vol. 1 (Idol) in the fall of 1999, and All the Falsest Hearts Can Try (Idol) in Spring 2000. All four records received rave reviews and critical acclaim around the world making many "best of" lists and reached as high as #2 on college charts.

South San Gabriel Songs/Music is the 5th release in 3 years for this prolific band. Recorded and produced by Matt Pence at the Echo Lab in Argyle, Tx and Valve Studios in Dallas, Tx in the Summer of 2000. This release takes the band back to the more subdued dark and moody indie pop songs that were on the classic Navigational CD. The band is touring thoughout Europe and the Netherlands in December, followed by more dates thoughout America in early 2001.
